ACTS

what is it?

Awareness Campaign of Travel Safety-a tiny-mini awareness campaign i started by myself but ...

*shy*

well,as a considerably frequent users of Klang Valley's public transports, and a concerned citizen to Klang Valley's most threatening and hazardous thing- fierce crowd(whether cars, trains, all crowds, never change)

why is it so?

that explains why.after several observations and experiences as a victim-to-be in most of it,a conclusion that the risk and probability of an occurance of stampede,or simply getting hurt,is very high especially in concerts, public transports such as buses and trains(where you're so close you get to feel the 'warmth' of th epersons around you.best of all,you can get body trimming sessions through that, since you're being squeeze aka having therma-wrap thingy in salon)

how does it work?

through the no.1 online buddies network in asia(some say malaysia only)Friendster, Hotmail, campus buddies, blogs and peak hours distribution of the information patch in the affected areas(erm...this particular one is not sure yet...im a planner and a spontaneur, ya know, considering all the acts and things) to create and raise the awareness by using striking methods.(erm...maybe by contacting the authority to see whether a more systematic and safe way can be introduced.eg. Putra LRT's line-up-and-make-way-for-those-coming-out-or-you'll-get-beeped-at method, totally civilised!-i mean the way,not people.by that way you get to go in accordingly and people can get out fast too.) i dont want to be caught,so let's do it in a civilised way. peace bro!

alright,some comic relief here(l.o.l)

below is a quote from Auntie R:
aiyo..i tell you ah,i got push out of the train one time ah aiyo...i in front one you know...i cannot get in already loh...i have to wait dont know how many time ah...but hor,i slim already..see?aiya..but still very dangerous la...i want to see my son also cannot so much...

quote from Miss M:
well, concerning the matter...erm...ahem...this is really a demonstration of 'the 1st world facility and 3rd world mentality,i'll say...they just cant follow the rules*snort* and advice!what are the effects of the announcement and reminders from the PA system?none!everyone wants to go home soon too but what's wrong with being patient, for the sake of your own and others' safety?that way,it'll be more efficient! can't you guys just ----------------------(woops,censored by the editor)

so friends,if you're concerned,or had the same experience(so-in-the-same-boat) and want to help voicing out, please repost this in your site.

million thanks.(and feel free to comment!)

-spread the awareness-

oh,and to the PUSHERS, one day you'll be PUSHED!!

Hahahaha... Just wondering...

Btw... Good cause!

yup i did send..but it needs continual efforts..=)

y'know i gotta say, just a week in Singapore i already see how much more civilised Singaporean drivers are. but the last time i took the MRT, they were just slightly better than Malaysians. at least they stood aside for others to alight before stampeding in. haha.

and yeah, it's a great idea vivienne =) hope it reaches as many as possible.

=") thnx 4 d support..*touched*

Hey you know what?

If we were to look at M'sian and S'porean ppl, the ones who drive and/or take public transportation right... Why the different attittude? Like YeeVon said, ppl in S'pore a pretty much more civilised than the ones over in M'sia... Y is that?

Were M'sians taught differently here? Is the culture different? What is it?

Curious...

ViViEnNe said...

erm...maturity?specifically education on morality?its like vy kampong kind of mind set...poverty driven????im curious too..

KahJoon said...

i think y they are so civilized is because they obey rules. the authorities in singapore are said to have eyes everywhere and nobody dares to do anything wrong.

yeevon, while ur in SG try noticing this also. while at road crossings at traffic lights, notice that singaporeans wait for the green light to cross but others don't..usually those who dont are malaysian tourists..haha

amy2kyo said...

Kah Joon's got a point lor. Most Malaysians don't obey the rules. Even if there were eyes, briberies happen. So people will do it again and again.

Don't know about other countries' civilization.

Malaysians are orang besi. Just cross like nobody's business.

ViViEnNe said...

see?so sinistic la...bribe,n then accidents n injuries..who do u blame?

yeevs said...

actually haha, i was crossing the road day before yesterday and i waited for the lights to turn green, but err.. alot didn't. they ran across like a bunch of chickens. hahaha

but anyway yeah, the best example you could see is in Orchard Road. everybody is so systematic you might even think the whole lot of them are programmed to be that way.

i told my aunty (actually more like complained) about Malaysian drivers being so barbaric. she said it all boils down to education. even so, there are of course some bad nuts i've seen. one thing for sure, the public toilets, bus stations, markets etc. here is wayyyy cleaner than the ones in Malaysia. and to think we've to pay for clean toilets in Malaysia. PLEASE LAH! so memalufying times ten.

Hmmm... Education?

What kind of education are we talking about then? What do we REALLY teach our kids in M'sia?

Maybe our parents play a bigger role in this... Sometimes kids learn from example... So I guess it's pretty important that it starts from the family...

Also, that depends on the kid's background and all... I'm just generalizing that kids grow up in families... (My bad, haven't done research on the stats of kids with/without families...)

I believe not all M'sians are that bad... It's just that we always get to see all those suckers out there... Haahahah... Just joking..

Anita said...

To compliment Mich's point, kids observe the adults. So adults have to act right in order 4 the young ones to follow.
Education at home, I call it.

Gilgamesh said...

Hmmm... I just realised Anita pointed a different angle that I was unable to see earlier...

Education at home... What if the parents were not the kinda role model for their kids? In harsh terms, what if they're screw-ups themselves? I mean not all kids have the ability to think critically... It's usually in their development stage that's really significant...

Haih... Then how do we help them? Sometimes it's not so easy to view things in black and white... More often, the world is in a dark shade of grey... Plus, even adults can't really differentiate between right and wrong, but then, who's to say what's right OR wrong...

So what I'm trying to say is... I guess we REALLY are the future... Perhaps it's not only the parents' responsibility but rather ALL of us should be responsible to guide the young ones, and if possible, embed good values for their future undertakings...

I'm sure we can do that right? :)

Anita said...

Yes Mich. We can.

amy2kyo said...

Yea, you guys are right. If not education at home then let it be education at school. You know things like pendidikan sivik.

But then, things like this suppose to be taught in both ways; theoretically and practically. Like crossing the roads, you don't use theories to perform the action of crossing, do you?

So how? Think until pening d.

yeevs said...

Y'know, most of the time, kids learn more from the outside than from parents. Just take a look at how much time young children spend in school and tuition centres than the time they spend at home. not to crucify either being more detrimental but yeah, michelle is right. it's OUR responsibility too. in fact, it's EVERYBODY's responsibility in educating EVERYBODY. hmm.. kinda like one of the stories by Calvino (right Dr. Carmen?? something about the stranger and shoelaces and the next 'Noah')

Gilgamesh said...

Ei.. Amy....

What's pendidikan sivik dy ar?

I don't think I've had that subject before lar...

What do they teach?

amy2kyo said...

Actually it's called Pendidikan Sivik dan Kewarganegaraan. Purpose of it is to build good citizen in our country.

This subject is for both non-Muslim and Muslim students. Also became a compulsory subject for students upper primary and lower secondary.

We are never educated this but Pendidikan Moral. That's why we never knew about it. Why they introduce this? Because non-Muslims only learn Moral Studies while the Muslims have their kelas agama.

But then there's debates going on: Aren't Moral and Civic Studies the same? Hmm, I think I went off topic. Heeeeee :P

jeannie said...

I think it's not that Malaysians dunno this is wrong. It's just that we are NOT afraid of doing it. So maybe KJ's right about Sporeans have stricter laws til they just dun have the courage to do it. But let them come to Malaysia, they'll be the same...

ViViEnNe said...

hm....education DO tk a point here...but its like whtever u teach, how 2 we 'implant' them into the mind?or 'cultivate'?thats wt mk me geram sumtimes, like tak boleh diajar the kids...even adults...tats y i cum up with this...
and all these leads to what jeannie said of they r doin it even though they KNOW its wrong..

LikeNo0ther said...

wow..interesting topic leh..its not that the kids cant be taught but sometimes its just that every individual absorb things differently and at different levels..it requires alot to implant something to a group of students to understand it in the same way..

pity the slow learners cause always kena fire (i'm a good exmaple)..like what cantonese ppl always say "why u 'kap sau' so slow one? my sis does that to me alwaYs! ish.. make me look like a fool only at times.. =(

LikeNo0ther said...

Hmmm... LikeNoOther has a point lar... It's true that different ppl have different levels of absorption but then again, others can show more guidance until they get (at least) the content, right?

Plus, who do we classify as slow learners anyway? I bet everyone is a fast AND slow learner sometimes...

Give ur sis a break... She can be a freakazoid but I know she sayang you a lot... Hahaha...

Btw, back to Jeannie... So do you think it's a good step if M'sia have stricter laws, like in S'pore? Can we change the situation in M'sia like that? I there another way to it? I mean besides the 'upgrade' law thingy...

Gilgamesh said...

KahJoon said...

Lol..mich is such a mean sister..

well' i dont think having stricter laws can all put a stop to this all together. many steps have to be taken in order to change this situation.

my suggestions are:
1. improve our education. teach manners to our youngsters. forget bout the older generation. old dogs cant learn new tricks.
2. improve the facilities. for LRT, i think an upgrade is in order. we should have bigger trains and they should come "on time".
3. impose stricter laws.
4. make sure that we speak out. tell of the ppl who commit those offences. we should discard our "tidak apa" attitude. this should be practised by everyone. bystanders and victims included.

Gilgamesh said...

Disclaimer : I AIN'T A MEAN SISTA!

hahahahaha...

About your suggestions... not bad...

But we can't compare humans to dogs right? I know... I know... Metaphorically mar... But I thought there's always the possibility that humans can change... Even the older ones... Well, who knows right? We'll see as we go on...

On improving facilities... A lot of money would be dump in, right? Like building the MRT is it?...I think besides just upgrading, there should be a team that does research and compare our LRT with the rest of the world (The good ones, I mean), then we can really have a world class transportation system that we can be proud of, right? Hahahaha... (In my dreams!)

Stricter laws? Perhaps higher fines... Hahaha... Oh, u know what I mean...

About those pushers right, I mean... Y do they push anyway? Like KJ said, many a times, the LRT is not on time... When they're not on time, ppl start getting more n more, therefore the pushing...

And then the LRT ppl never anticipate the peak hours, especially in the morning... The fact is (I've seen this!) u HAVE to push to get in, or else you'll be late! How ridiculous is that?! The LRT is always full, so you just have to push n squeeze yourself to get in... I remember having to wait 7 times... Wait... SEVEN TIMES!!! Of course, there's also during off duty, where everyone's rushing to get home... Haih...

I think those personnel are doing their best dy... They don't have enough of those train thingy to go round more often I suppose... Hahaha...

But certainly we can improve lar... hahahaha...

Mc Chaoz said...

They have alot of LRT, but most of them don't work.HAHAHA tak tukar minyak enjin kot.

Mc Chaoz said...

Malaysian taxi and bus drivers are like Mat Rempit. If there is a vehicle blocking their way, thats it. They just don't give a damm about others. Main gasak sahaja and always the buses will break down, even new buses. I don't know what is the reason. Actually I do. Laterlah now no time dy, too tired.

Gilgamesh said...

Huh?

So we're now discussing taxi drivers and bus drivers?

Erm... Bus drivers I understand... But taxi drivers?!

Is it true that all these drivers are like Mat Rempits? I'm afraid that's generalizing right?

Are all public transportation subject to breakdowns?

Just a thought...

ViViEnNe said...

chup chup...!! as i knw,lrt is on time 1...bt diff pace at diff time la..fastest 4 min longest 10min...n star is also alrite...(note:i told you they HAVE to line up or you'll get beep!got it?) BUT KTM is worst...d 'rela' or whatever ppl there just walk along n beep to distance d crowd frm d yellow line ONLY,but never do anything to PUSHING..d worst is that they even STUCK more ppl in when the cabin is aldi full and overwhelming like H**L!!!cant even breath properly! then buses are another thing also...

KahJoon said...

viv, how could u say that diff pace at diff time is on time..y they even adopt that in the first place..y not have intervals of 4 mins as a standard, dont matter if its peak or offpeak hours. that is what i call effective and on time.

i dont consider any of our LRTs on time. the indicator will show 4 minutes to the next train. well sometimes it wont come 1, the time will change. this is especially true for KTM. sux big time. star and putra is not dat good also. if u've been to Singapore, u'll know what "on time" means..the MRT trains there are so ontime u can time them. they motions also not as jerky as our LRTs. no need to hold on to sumthing 1 there. if we do that here..sure lose footing 1.

Sharwin, its true that we have alot of LRTs train coaches. but remember its still LRT(light rail transit) which means it is not meant to carry alot of ppl. that is the problem. should instead use MRT(mass rail transport). even better is new york's subway trains.

tak tukar minyak engine? hey our LRTs are not combustions engine trains anymore u noe..they run on electricity. minyak engine is ridiculous la.

hey, why talk about Mat Rempits? i despise them. to me they suffer from Attention Deficit Disorder Syndrome(ADDS), i coined it myself haha. discussing about Mat Rempits is just giving them the attention they want. why give them the pleasure. just ignore their childish behaviours. they think they damn cool. well they are so wrong.

Gilgamesh said...

I guess by having set a standard time for LRT is probably better...

The part when Viv said, that the personnel stuffed more ppl in to the cabin right? Hmmm... Y do you think they would do that in the first place? Sometimes it's the ppl's fault also.. I've been IN one... Especially the middle part of the cabin still has space to fill in like what, TEN ppl...

Imagine how many more they can fill in all those cabins! Sometimes ppl don't wanna crowd, so if you don't have a personnel to push more ppl in, you have no idea how late other ppl would be...

But then, not all those stations are like that... Come to think of it, I think only 10% of those stations (Star, Putra, Monorail, KTM) are always experiencing these sort of problems...

Y you ask? It's usually the interchange of these public transportations have more passengers...

For Putra line
-All stations except Abdullah Hukum, Pasar Seni, Masjid Jamek, Dang Wangi, Kg. Baru, KLCC, Ampang Park and Damai does NOT have feeder busses

-Has 4 interchanges at Dang Wangi (KL Monorail), Masjid Jamek (Star line of Sentul Timur to Ampang and Sri Petaling), Pasar Seni (KTM Sentul to Port Klang & KTM Rawang to Seremban), and of course KL Sentral...

-Usually certain stations have more passengers boarding them, so not all experience the pushing problem

* So most of the time when you faced these situations, you're usually at the interchange, at peak times (like in the morning when everyone's going to work/in the evening when everyone's off work), at heavily populated residential areas (Wangsa Maju, Kelana Jaya)

*Hopefully this clears the air to other ppl that not all stations are that bad... Hahahaha...

Give time... I'm sure we can do something to change things... If we really want to.. :)

Gilgamesh said...

Hahahaha... Kj really funny lar... (the MRT trains there are so ontime u can time them)...

But I agree with KJ on the LRT not meant for a lot of ppl... But the MRT is...

But then right... I heard from somewhere previously that the Transportation Ministry thought of bringing down the LRT lines and convert to MRT...

Woah! So 'ma fan' right? I've always wondered y sometimes the gov ppl do things, they only thought of the short term goals...

Like the LRT... They never anticipated that many ppl would be using it right? Y didn't they thougth of building the MRT in the first place?

If they wanna build it now (MRT), where would it be? KL is pretty congested dy right?

Besides New York subway trains, in Italy too they have a great transportation system... Oh! And Japan too!!!

KahJoon said...

mich, it was me and dr carmen who were talking about govt wanting to upgrade to MRT..i was telling her how our govt tak berpandangan jauh..i dont know how they wan to upgrade to MRT lo..KL soil cannot dig underground..the name Kuala Lumpur tells u the reason d..if the LRT lines are extended to subang and puchong..the number of ppl sure go up 1..that time die lah..

Gilgamesh said...

Hahahaha... Now I remember you saying it... Hahahahaha...

Ei~... But is there a possibility for KL to build an MRT at all?

I mean like you said... To Subang and Puchong and all... I know "Kuala Muddy" mar... Maybe it's possible...

Or maybe extend to Shah Alam or Kajang...

But then, even without building to Subang and Puchong, the number of ppl WILL continue to increase as time passes... What can the gov do then? Invent machines that could carry 5000 ppl and fly in the sky? I'm not saying it's impossible but issues like this can't be ignored right? Sooner or later they have to do something...

Just wondering what are the steps that the gov can do...

ViViEnNe said...

kj..ok la..if tats ur view n point..i dun argue..

but mich,u go n check on www.rapidkl.com.my (or sth like tat,im sure)

u check n c,they ALL hv feeder bus la...if nt y u c me alwis travel on them 2 places?d diff is whether its a bus HUB or not..if its bus hub rite, means they hv more MAJOR buses...(erm..if u know wt i mean..its written there)

hv 2 hold onto sum facts..
peace k?

ViViEnNe said...

wait kj,d 'on time' i meant is reli u can time them de wo..coz when it shows on d light board 4 min 18 sec they reli came de wo..when got technical prob they wil indicate aso wo...so????

Gilgamesh said...

Hmmm... That was weird...

I took all the data from the Klang Valley Rail Transit System... Plus it's the Special Edition 2007... Pretty updated...

The Stations that I mentioned have feeder buses... Of course all stations have at least ONE bus passing thru but those I said have like you said, more buses... Cos I said previously that not all stations have that many passengers... Hahahahaha...

Oh... and the 'on time' thingy right... Hahahahaha... I'm very particular about time cos it's a lot of numbers.. I'm just weird but anyway... I did time them before and TRUST me... They were NOT on time...

E.g. There was this one time when I had to rush from Taman Paramount to Wangsa Maju.. Hahahaha... It stated on the board 5 minutes more... So I had a clockwatch mar... Nothing to do.. So I 'wu liao' and timed it.. Erm... It was 7 minutes later... Then when I was coming back from Wangsa Maju, it stated 4 minutes left... But I waited for 10 minutes...

Maybe it was just a cruel joke done by those LRT engineers but I was really pissed la... Hahahaha...

Just wanna let you know that not all the time those LRT are on time... Hopefully next time IF i board on those things, they would be on time! Hahahaha....

But at that time I was wondering... Y do they state the time but it didn't come on time? I mean y gave me hope that they would be there soon but I ended up waiting? I know it's some extra few minutes... But you have no idea what damage it did to me... Haih...

Carmen N said...

KJ, Attention Deficit Disorder Syndrome cannot be a term you coined because it has already been invented! it is a psychological term that really does exist and is applied to hyperactive children.

About mat rempits... well, we'll have to have another post on that because this one about transportation makes my head spin! You all darn free to write so much ah??? Phew! I had a tough time reading all your thoughts this morning. But all good lah... shows you are thinking... or some pakai tembak melulu je... hahahha

About the LRT/MRT problem... let me just put it to you this way... to show how incredibly GENIUS our govt is:

Singapore is a small country, which has a population of 4.5 million people, not all of whom use the MRT but most do.

When Singapore decided to build a public transport system, it decided to plan AHEAD and build a MASS transit system because it knew that the country's population will only grow.

We are Asians lah... like to make babies and don't want to be homosexual like them Europeans... hahahahhaha... red herring... hahahaha

Anyway, think about it: 4.5 million people, build MRT.

Malaysia how many million? Klang Valley how many million? Klang Valley and greater KL (surrounding areas) how many million?

According to the 2006 census, Klang Valley has 6.5 million people!!!!! 6.5 million!!! That is 2 million MORE MORE MORE than Singapore, their whole country.

And what do we build?

Because we are smart, because we think all Malaysians will eventually turn gay and not make babies because we are too influenced by budaya kuning and because we have too many cronies in the LRT department and because we like to build things fast so that citizens will think govt is damn efficient... we decide to build:

LRT... LIGHT rail transit.. not MASS rail. Because really, we are not a MASS of people, not like those Singaporeans!!!

Right?

You see... you are so so smart... or rather, our govt is so so smart...

Malaysia BOLEH!!!

P.S. Sorry for my bad English... decided to go Manglish today. You guys are all influencing me too much!! hahahaha

Of course lah LRT does not use engine oil. You can't understand a joke? Whats wrong? Am I crazy?

LRT=little people
Mrt= alot of people

Didn't they know that malaysia's population will increase. This is the problem Malaysian tend to think like this. Think of building or doing something like other countries but do not think of the long term changes, of what might change in another few years time. Whatever other countries have we must have, copycats lah. Tak ada otak sendirikah?

#Privatize the govt

#LRT and they want to built MRT
to singapore

#Koridor Utara

#National Service

#Highways(starting with 2,going
to be 3lanes then 4,5,6,)

#Building a high tech bridge to
penang(Jgn marah orang penang)

But all the good thing the other countries practice they do not follow.
